Patient Mr Baillie!

Craig was a refreshing, honest, good humoured friend. As a sporstman, I’ll always remember him playing 5-a-side football where he would put his head down then race as fast as he could towards the opponent’s goal. As soon as he could, he would blast the ball as hard as possible. He never scored and the ball would fly off into the undergowth but he never stopped trying.

He always displayed patience, that vital teacher and policeman attribute. After staying overnight at my house, he walked outside in the morning to find the wing of his car ripped off. Accidentally taken off by an ex-pupil driving by but Craig took it well. As indeed he did in a curry house one evening when slightly wound up by a mutual friend. The friend had filled out a cheque to pay for his curry. Craig leaned over, calmly took the friend’s cheque and ate it!

More recently, last year, I remember Craig descending from up high in the Lake District, clearly finding it as hard as I was but never showing it or complaining. A wonderful man, now to be fondly remembered but sorely missed.
